Tēnā koe Emma and members of the Board,
I am writing to express my strong interest in the Tumuaki/Principal position at Rangiora Borough School. I am an experienced principal and educational leader who has spent my career building thriving kura that place wellbeing, equity and achievement for all tamariki at the heart. Having served as a principal for 14 years, a Presiding Member of Rangiora High School, and now as a Principal Advisor and Leadership Consultant with Evaluation Associates, I bring a depth of leadership experience and a strong commitment to community that aligns with the vision and values of Rangiora Borough School.
My leadership is characterised by creating inclusive cultures where all learners can succeed. At Amberley School I led a successful re-visioning process that rebranded and revitalised the kura, embedding a localised curriculum and strengthening whānau and community partnerships. At North Loburn School, I established global connections and achieved Green-Gold EnviroSchools status, demonstrating both innovation and sustainability. In governance, my role as Presiding Member at Rangiora High School has required steady leadership through challenges including significant property projects, personnel issues, improving school wide culture and large-scale strategic planning.
Over the past three and a half years I have stepped beyond principalship to support and coach tumuaki across Canterbury and Otago. In this role I have promoted best practice, worked closely with beginning principals on their leadership challenges, and gained valuable skills learning from their experiences. This has allowed me to remain current with Ministry priorities, curriculum developments, and national leadership PLD. I see this as a unique strength: it means I return to principalship with fresh perspective, extended networks, and an up-to-date understanding of the system — benefits that I believe will serve Rangiora Borough School well.
I place students firmly at the centre of all decisions, and I believe every learner has the right to be challenged, supported and celebrated. Equally, I value and respect kaiako, and see my role as empowering teachers to grow their practice and flourish as professionals. Strong, supported teachers create the conditions for students to thrive, and this partnership between learner and kaiako sits at the heart of my leadership. I also bring to the school culture a sense of humour, playfulness and a genuine enjoyment of people — I believe schools should be places of joy as well as learning. I work hard to build a culture where laughter and fun sit comfortably alongside high expectations.
What excites me most about this opportunity is the chance to lead a kura that is central to the Rangiora community, with its proud bilingual unit, strong values, and sense of belonging. My connection to this community is deep and enduring - I was born and educated in Rangiora and am staunchly proud of this region. I am committed to leading in a way that reflects our community aspirations.
I would welcome the opportunity to bring my leadership experience, student focus, respect for kaiako, and commitment to positive school culture to this role. I am excited by the potential to work alongside your staff, tamariki, whānau and community to continue strengthening Rangiora Borough School as a place where kaiako and learners are supported and inspired to succeed.
Ngā mihi nui,
Simon Green
